At our April meeting David Carpenter drew members attention to a post that I had made the previous day to twitter and Facebook about a tool provided by Wordfence that will very simply allow you to check that your router does not exhibit the “misfortune cookie” vulnerability. Simply click this link https://www.wordfence.com/blog/2017/04/check-your-router/ and then click the “Scan Me” button near the bottom of the post. You will get a message telling you whether your router is safe or not.
This is a very simple measure that is well worth taking. In the past month alone Wordfence have seen over 57,000 unique home routers being used to attack WordPress sites. Those home networks are now being explored by hackers who have full access to them via the hacked home router. They can access workstations, mobile devices, wifi cameras, wifi climate control and any other devices that use the home WiFi network.
